World Teachers’ Day recognises the teachers who inspire, guide and support our young people. On 31 October, students and parents across our community will share their gratitude and celebrate the impact they make every day.

At Sacred Heart Primary School in Sandgate, celebrations will include a special staff lunch and activities to recognise the teaching community. For teacher Jill Byne, the most rewarding moments come when learning clicks for a student.

“After many years of teaching, my love for the profession has never faded,” Jill said. “There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the moment a child truly understands. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such a meaningful career, especially here at Sacred Heart, where the sense of purpose is shared.”

Teacher Librarian Maureen Cullip finds joy in seeing students engage with stories.

“A library filled with giggles about a story,” Maureen said. “A child’s excitement because they’ve found a book they can’t wait to read. Hearing one student tell another, ‘This is a fantastic book – you should read it!’ These are a few of the many ways I feel appreciated as a teacher at Sacred Heart.”

Students were excited to share how their teachers make a difference to their learning and well-being:

  • “They’ve helped me learn how to concentrate and think more about my answers,” Sam said.
  • “Miss Underwood makes me feel safe, and I can trust her, and I know she is looking out for me,” Olive said.
  • “I really like that Mrs Palmer knows everyone individually, so she knows what we like and what we don’t, and that helps us learn,” Ziggy-Rose said.
  • “My teacher made me feel more comfortable at school, and helps me feel better if I get things wrong,” August said.

Celebrating World Teachers’ Day

At nearby Bracken Ridge State High School, teachers and students are also preparing to celebrate the day.

Teacher Luke Aschenberger said he thrived on the energy that students and teachers create together throughout the school day.

“Teaching to me is about sharing energy when you can; smiling and saying, ‘Good morning’, encouraging a student to finish that sentence, kicking the footy at lunch – the energy can be infectious,” Luke said.

Even though Year 10 can be challenging, teachers aim to inspire and support their students every day.

Year 10 student Ben said, “It’s always worth it to come to school, no matter how hard it gets.”

World Teachers’ Day is an opportunity to give thanks to our teachers who work hard to shape the next generation every single day.

Our community is grateful for the dedication, passion and care they show. This special day is a chance for all of us to say a heartfelt thank you.
