It’s not every day a 4017 local lands a role on national television, but Year 8 St Patrick’s College student Jaden Armitage has done just that.
Earning a spot on Season 2 of TheatreDome, Channel 9’s groundbreaking improvisation show for kids, Jaden will join other young drama students as they face off in lively sketch challenges under the guidance of professional mentors.
“I filmed five episodes in August and will film another ten later this year,” he said. “I felt grateful to be invited for an audition and I am excited to watch the episodes.”
Jaden first caught the theatre bug at the age of nine when he attended a last-minute audition for a production of School Of Rock and landed a spot in the ensemble.
“Since then, I have been involved in many productions with the highlight being my first professional show, Fun Home, at Pip Theatre in Brisbane, where I played the role of Christian,” he said. “I’ve also performed the lead roles of Jack in Newsies Jr, and Jeremy in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at St Patrick’s College, and have volunteered to help out with the school’s junior musical for next year, Madagascar.”
Jaden’s Advice and Future
While Jaden is actively involved in many co-curricular cultural programs at SPC, he is grateful to be able to attend a school that offers a diverse range of activities.
“It was important for me to go to a school that is actively involved in cultural activities because it gives me a lot of confidence and keeps my interest up,” he said. “I also play rugby and am a thrower in the Track and Field team. I get to learn from a wide range of great teachers and tutors both inside and outside school with different backgrounds in sports and culture.”
As for what the future holds for Jaden, he’s currently just enjoying the process and seeing what becomes of it. However, his biggest piece of advice for other young aspiring actors is just to put yourself out there and take a chance.
“I think putting yourself out there builds confidence,” he said. “If you are nervous on stage, or on a TV or film set, you’ve already won, because getting yourself out there is a win for you.”
Season 1 of TheatreDome is available at 9Now.
