When was the last time you did something just for yourself? For many of us, between work, family commitments and the never-ending to-do list, self-care is often the first thing to fall to the bottom of the pile.

International Self-Care Day, observed on 24 July each year, is a reminder that looking after yourself doesn’t have to involve expensive retreats or carving out hours of free time. Often, the smallest habits can have the biggest impact on our well-being.

Self-care can be as simple as drinking enough water, taking a daily walk, stepping outside for five minutes of fresh air or listening to your favourite song. Other helpful habits include getting enough sleep, setting healthy boundaries around your time and staying connected with people who lift you up.

Simple Ways to Make Self-Care a Daily Habit

You might also enjoy journalling, exercise, reading a book or making time for a hobby that brings you joy. The key is finding activities that help you recharge and making them part of your everyday routine, even on the busiest days.

This International Self-Care Day, take a moment to check in with yourself. Small, consistent acts of self-care can improve your physical, mental and emotional well-being. And when you take better care of yourself, you’re often better equipped to support the people around you, too.
